This is great advice on "turning execs into knowledge leaders". I would add that this is a case of "he who hesitates is lost" so do leap in. It is however, a time consuming task and you may wish to know. "what's in it for you?" Personal visibility if that's what you want, but if you want to know more accurately what's in it for your shareholders or the bottom line, you may be pleased to know you can calculate the ROI of your social media efforts. Here are three blogs which describe how :
How to calculate the ROMI of your website as a whole: http://bit.ly/6bFSvs
A list of the 10 best free ROI calculators on the web: http://bit.ly/7fwBkF
How to build your own ROI calculator (perhaps for your social media campaign): http://bit.ly/6IGZQh

Daksh,

Most businesses are still struggling as they get started with Twitter: who to follow, how to develop a network, what tweets to send out, how to stay relevant, how not to oversell. While there are tools etc to help you with each of the above, the biggest tool is "common sense". Social media and Twitter is similar to other communication medium in a lot of aspects: and while it is important to be different and generate buzz, the key is to engage people and build relationships. Happy to chat more: email me at guptanitinonline@gmail.com

Nitin,

The situation is pretty interesting at the moment. You know, I tell people social media is applicable for every business owner, no matter what your industry is, who your targets are. For some it could be sheer presence, for some it could be engaging in conversations with existing customers & for some it could be creating communities for diff. purposes as you mentioned.

You know there's a lot of talk going on about how you can leverage social media to do what not & what not. Conversations/communities/connections apart, the questions are:

-- How can tools like twitter be used for B2B businesses, especially in the context of prospects
-- More appropriately how do you generate leads if you generate leads for services.

I think guys like us need to find some real answers to these, as well as dig into past-case studies :) because a business decision maker needs to be convinced thoroughly on this !!

Would love to talk more about this Skype/email ?
